Product Responsibility

Quality Assurance

In 2019 we found that a prescribed test in the final inspection of certain medical power modules at Ina Works had not been carried out on every unit, although the records said it had. We reported the facts, commissioned an investigation by outside experts and published its findings in March 2020.

Since then, inspection results on every final inspection line are recorded automatically by the test equipment and cannot be edited, inspection sections report to the Quality Assurance and Product Security Division rather than to the works, and anyone in the Group can report a concern anonymously to the outside directors. The division reports on quality to the Board every quarter.

Product Security

Many of our products are now connected to their owners' networks or to their makers' service networks. Hosaka PSIRT, established in 2019, receives vulnerability reports, coordinates fixes with OEM customers and publishes product security advisories. Since April 2024 we provide a software bill of materials to OEM customers for every new controller.

Reports of vulnerabilities in Hosaka products are welcome at psirt@hosakacorporation.com.

Responsible Technology

Our controllers carry out the commands of the equipment they are built into; they make no decisions of their own. As our customers add more automation to their equipment, we believe the makers of components share responsibility for how that equipment behaves. Since 2022 engineers from our Hachioji Development Center have taken part in research with Frothly, the San Francisco research nonprofit, on the safe maintenance of automated systems in the field.

We do not design products for weapons, and we screen every export under our Security Export Control program.
